Uluru sunrise and kata tjuta (olgas)
Rise early today and enter Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Enjoy a revitalising and warm cup of tea or coffee with our compliments as you witness the changing colours of Uluru (Ayers Rock) at sunrise and see the desert come to life. With the sun climbing in the morning sky, travel to the western section of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Here lie the 36 immense and weathered rock domes of Kata Tjuta, which were thought to have once been a single rock many times the size of Uluru. Kata Tjuta actually means ‘many heads’ in traditional Aboriginal language. On arrival there, embark on a guided walk into Walpa (Olga) Gorge. This short, easy stroll leads up a rocky, gentle slope and then into a shady, moist gully. Marvel at the sheer walls that flank you as you enter the magnificent gorge. Learn of the domes’ formation and of the region’s wildlife. Some of the plants you will see here are so rare that they are only found among these rocky domes. During the walk, keep an eye out for the ancient Aboriginal petroglyphs (stone carvings) that can be found on the floor of the gorge. When the walk concludes, reboard the vehicle and return to Ayers Rock Resort by 11 am.
